May is Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month—a time to raise awareness and remember that safety is a human right. At Uplift, we believe that every person deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported—not just in their relationships, but in every area of their lives.
The Reality of Domestic and Family Violence
Domestic and family violence isn’t always visible. It can take many forms—physical, emotional, psychological, financial, sexual, and social abuse. It can happen in any home, to any person, regardless of age, background, or circumstance.
In Australia, 1 in 4 women have experienced physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner. These statistics are not just numbers—they represent our friends, our clients, our colleagues, and our community.
The Impact on Women’s Health
Domestic and family violence has profound impacts on women’s physical and mental health. It can lead to anxiety, depression, chronic pain, reproductive health issues, and difficulty accessing care. For women who are pregnant or postpartum, the risks are even greater.
At Uplift, we recognise how trauma and stress show up in the body. Our services are designed to support women through every stage of their healing—whether they’re navigating the aftermath of abuse, rebuilding their sense of self, or reclaiming their health and autonomy.
Creating a Safe, Supportive Space
At Uplift, we are deeply committed to providing a space where women feel seen, heard, and empowered. We understand the complexities of trauma and the importance of gentle, individualised care. Here’s how we uphold safety and support in our practice:
- We approach every appointment with empathy, confidentiality, and a trauma-informed lens.
- Our practitioners take the time to listen—without judgment—and support your choices at every step.
- We tailor treatment to your comfort, offering options like modified positioning and non-invasive assessment alternatives when needed.
- Gentle, grounding techniques such as remedial massage can help you reconnect with your body in a way that feels safe and nurturing.
We’re here to support your whole health journey, and that includes helping you access the right resources, services, and information outside our clinic too.
