Bringing new life into the world is a transformative journey — physically, emotionally, and mentally. At Uplift Women’s Health Clinic, we understand that the postnatal period is not only about caring for your baby, but also about nurturing yourself. One of the most gentle yet powerful ways to support wellbeing during this time is postnatal massage.
The Benefits of Postnatal Massage
The postnatal period is a time of healing, adjustment, and often, exhaustion. Whether you are the birthing or non-birthing parent — and yes, massage is not just for the birthing parent — or you’re navigating early parenthood in another way, your body undergoes significant changes. New postures, disrupted sleep, hormonal shifts, and the emotional demands of caring for a baby all take a toll.
Postnatal massage, or postpartum massage, is a nurturing therapy that can help you feel more grounded in your body and supported in your parenting journey.
Some of the known benefits of postnatal massage or massage for the non-birthing partner include:
- ✅ Reducing muscular tension and pain, especially in the shoulders, neck, and lower back from breastfeeding, lifting, or holding baby for long periods
- ✅ Supporting hormonal balance and emotional wellbeing, especially in the early weeks when postpartum mood fluctuations are common
- ✅ Reducing stress which may help as your body adapts to your new routine (or lack of routine!)
- ✅ Encouraging rest and relaxation, offering a moment of calm and connection to yourself in what can often be a chaotic time
Individualised Postnatal Massage Support at Uplift
At Uplift, we recognise that every postnatal journey is unique. Whether you’ve given birth yourself, witnessed the birth, provided support, or you are navigating early parenthood in another way, our therapists are here to support you safely and respectfully — whether it’s one week after birth or many months into your parenting experience.
We also acknowledge that the postnatal period can hold joy, grief, complexity, or all of the above. If you’ve experienced birth trauma, stillbirth, or pregnancy loss, our massage therapist Sarah provides trauma-informed care, creating a space where your story and your needs are met with compassion, skill, and understanding.

What to Expect During Your Postnatal Massage
Postnatal massage like all of our massage services at Uplift is always individually tailored. Before your session, we’ll check in to understand your physical needs and emotional state and together decide what your massage needs are and what positioning will feel most supportive.
We can accommodate breastfeeding, and baby is always welcome in the room if that feels right for you. Some parents even bring a support person to care for baby while they rest and receive their massage.
When to Start Postpartum Massage
There’s no one-size-fits-all timeline. Some women feel ready for massage within the first weeks after birth, while others wait several weeks or months. Whether you come to us early or later in your postpartum journey, the benefits of postnatal massage or massage for the non-birthing partner remain: rest, relaxation, and reconnection to your own body.
Reclaiming Your Body with Postnatal Massage
It’s easy to get lost in the demands of newborn care, but you matter too. Your recovery, your rest, your emotions — they are all valid and worth tending to.
Postnatal massage or postpartum massage isn’t just a luxury. It’s a form of holistic postpartum care, and one that can help you feel seen, relaxed, and supported.
